Yesterday news was received that Stan Clever, a Life Member of Sydney Hockey, had passed away.
Stan started his hockey career, as a Goalkeeper with Prairie Vale Hockey Club (Green and Orange) that had formed from Canley Vale Digger’s Club where Stan’s Father was a member. In the 1970s Prairie Vale was a Second Division Club of two teams which subsequently disbanded with some of their members moved to Bankstown. However, at that time there were a number of notable goalkeepers and so he decided to become a Umpire and subsequently a Technical Official. In the 1970s Stan gained his Australian Umpires Badge and was a member of the panel of Sydney First Grade, State and National Umpires. Stan is best known for his contribution to the development of Umpires and Technical Officials and was an Office Bearer of the Sydney Umpires Association until its amalgamation into Sydney Hockey.
