Heartfelt Appreciation - Matty's Hope
“We are still trying to process everything that happened over the past weekend and the days leading up to that extraordinary weekend.
A year ago our lives were shattered, but last Saturday it was filled with a true sense of hope.
The outpouring of support and generosity from the hockey community has been phenomenal and we are so incredibly thankful to Sydney Hockey for embracing this initiative, leading the charge to give it momentum.
We would also like to express our immense gratitude to the hockey community for making the Mattys Hope Round such a success and would like to ask Sydney Hockey to assist us in delivering our thanks.
We have now secured funding for 3 years of research. We could not have done this without Sydney Hockey and would be extremely grateful for Sydney Hockey’s ongoing involvement and support so that we can continue to give this project the best possible outcome”
With our heartfelt appreciation

The SH Board is please to announce a partnership with a fundraising effort to fight Brain Cancer. Below you will see information about Matthew Lam, a Northern Districts player and Umpire who succumbed to brain cancer, just one year ago.
The info below shows that Matty’ family have set up a medical research project and will be supporting the fundraising cause with $20 per goal scored across the grades – all SH matches on 29/30th July and we call on our Clubs/teams to support the initiative by matching or exceeding the donation promised by the Lam family.
The SH Facebook page will be promoting the fundraising day in the lead up to 29th during our Livestream matches.

The Lam family;
29th July will be the anniversary of our son, Matthew Lam, passing away after a gallant fight with brain cancer. My family have been very moved by the support of the Sydney Hockey community and very thankful for it.
In February this year, my family in partnership with The Brain Tumour Group at the Children's Cancer Institute, launched a new medical research project called "Matty's Hope", which is the first of its kind in Australia to work on the type of brain cancer that took Matthew away.
This year Premier League's round 14 & Sydney League's round 15 will start on 29th July. We would like to propose in partnership with Sydney Hockey, naming that weekend of matches as the "Matty's Hope" round. In addition, for every goal scored in all 45 matches that weekend, my family will donate $20 per goal to project "Matty's Hope", with a minimum donation of $200 per match.
Best Regards
Tomy & Katie Lam
